How To Buy Guns Online

BUYING FIREARMS ONLINE

Online firearm purchasing is pretty much like buying anything else online, there are just a few extra steps you need to take.

No matter where in the U.S.A. you reside, you must have guns shipped to a licensed FFL dealer.

You must be at least 21 years old to purchase a handgun, stockless shotgun, complete AR or AK receiver, or stripped lower receiver. You must be a legal resident of the state in which you wish to transfer the firearm (The only exception to this would be active duty military personnel).

You should always check state and local laws regarding firearms, such as magazine capacities and restricted types of firearms, before ordering.

ARRANGE THE TRANSFER WITH YOUR LOCAL FFL DEALER

Contact the FFL dealer that you wish to use for the transfer, either by phone, email or text before placing your order. This will help avoid any confusion on the dealer's end, such as an unexpected firearm delivery.

Also, not all FFL dealers are willing to perform transfers, even though they are listed on the seller's site.

They will need to send a copy of their FFL to the shipping dealer. Most dealers will charge a transfer fee, unless you are purchasing from them, in which case the fee is usually waived.

It's also a good idea to check with your chosen dealer, they may be able to get you the same gun for a lower price with no transfer fee.

Note: Straw purchasing, or purchasing a firearm for another person, is ILLEGAL. If this is attempted, the firearm will be returned to the supplier.

CHOOSE A FIREARM AND PLACE YOUR ORDER

Most online retailers will provide you with a tracking number so you will have an idea when your package will arrive. Contact your dealer for submitting a form 4473, or background check through the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System, also known as NICS.

Here in Oregon, you submit the form 4473 to the Oregon State Police's FICS, or Firearms Instant Check System and they will process it through the NICS. It sometimes helps if you have a concealed handgun license or active military ID, to speed up the process.

After you are approved for the purchase, you may pick up your firearm.

Some US states prohibit perceived advertising or marketing of firearm related products to persons under 18 years of age.

Please verify that you are at least 18 years of age.
